For those that have been reading all my reviews of Flash Gordon you know that the series started slow for me and I felt it didn’t do enough to welcome new readers in. While in the second issue they did more to help out us newbies catch up to the characters involved with this universe. Well I am happy to say that this issue continues on that trend and has solidified that I will be a Flash Gordon reader moving forward, at least as long as the comic continues to be good.
As a new reader I have been diving in head first into the world reading the first three issues, as well as the Quarterly issue that came out, and even looking forward to diving into the all ages title Flash Gordon Adventures. I know that Flash Gordon isn’t the most complicated universe out there but it is important to me for creators to make the content accessible to people like me. I feel like the team here has done that in the best way possible.
With issue three Jeremy Adams story starts off with an origin story for Ming that helps to set the stage for his actions in the issue. I thought the origin was handled really well, only lasting a few pages, but bring depth to his character and explains why he makes the decision he makes. While we see Flash right where we left him trying to figure his way out a this predicament. The story for this issue was engaging and kept me interested with how it tied things together, and some great action sequences.

Like most of the comic I review as we dive deeper into the series it becomes harder to say new things about the art when the team stays together. This is a good thing by the way, I love when a series keeps its art team together for the duration of the story. Will and Lee are a great match for this series. As always they do an amazing job of pacing the story along, giving the reader great action scenes to chew on, and setting the mood of each panel. See for yourself below just how great the first couple of pages are.

This series has been a real pleasure to read since Mad Cave took it over. My hat goes off to the publishers for making, what seem like, all the right moves to really catapult themselves up the charts. As for this issue it really is a great read, that acts really well as a jumping on point too. Jeremy and crew have an engaging story that looks amazing, and makes the reader want to see what’s next with their cliffhanger. You should all definitly jump on board the train right now!
