Writer-Jonathan Hedrick
Artist/Creator-Kevin Delgado
For anyone that is new out there I have had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with both Jonathan Hedrick and Kevin Delgado both on my podcast, that’s the Fortress of Comic News podcast, and in person several times. Both these men are great comic creators and even better people. Over the years Kevin has worked to create independent comics that he has both written and drawn, plus he has done variant covers for titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Department of Truth and so many more. Possibly his biggest independent work is for Tuff Stuff, a comic that he has published through crowdfunding and seen published by both Cosmic Lions Productions and Source Point Press.
With this new special issue of Tuff Stuff Kevin has tapped one of my favorite indie comics writers Jonathan Hedrick to help him out with this issue. These two coming together on this property is honestly one of the amazing surprises that I could never have dreamed up.
For those that don’t know Tuff Stuff is about a cybernetically enhanced cat, who at one point was addicted to crack. While fighting for what he thinks is right he discovers truths about his past, his family, and so much more. With each issue we dig deeper into the past of this mysterious character who you end up rooting for even as he stumbles along the way. Kevin has built a fun action/comedy series that is without a doubt his best work. But be ready for some raunchy humor, gory action, and tons of 80’s movie style scenes.
For those that back this campaign the tiers are simple. But first for my digital people out there this is one of those rare Kickstarters where there is no digital edition of the comic. There are physical editions of the comic for you to get though, and I would recommend breaking your digital only life for this one. Kevin Delgado has three different covers to choose from including a Shawshank Redemption homage by Kevin himself, an amazing wraparound cover from Brandon Nebitt, and a holofoil cover by Ivan Tao. Also for those that want a little more you could be drawn into the book, like I have in two separate issues, or own a page of original art from this issue. He also offers as add-ons the trade paperback of the first four issues, physical floppies of the first four issues, a coloring and activity book, plus more covers like the Sketch Blank Cover with an original piece from Kevin Delgado.
Tuff Stuff is a series that I legit love. I have been on this project from the first issue because honestly Kevin is a semi-local creator for me, but once I read the issue I saw that he had something special indeed. I can’t reccomend backing this project enough and hope you all take the time to check out the campaign using the link below!
