Happy New Year!
Some of you might be wondering why I took the last couple of months off from writing on SubStack. Well I am here to let you know why and what I have for the future. So lets get into it.
Why did I stop? Honestly it came down to a few factors. One was that I was getting burnt out with the multiple posts a week and trying to find time to review comics as well. I tend to put too much on my plate and then realize later on that I can’t keep up with all the things I promise to do. That is a fault of mine that I plan to work on starting this new year. Two was the events that I talked about back in September. I started to really feel unwanted in the comics community. I won’t go heavy into it because you can read that previous post but what happened after Charlie Kirk’s death and the celebration I saw amongst people honestly made me sick. After talking with some friends and doing some self reflection I realized that those people are the minority. Many of you reading this, like me, disagree with Kirk’s message but had enough humanity, unlike our President, to either say nothing or send regards for a terrible moment. Those are the people I should be here for not the ones that hold so much hate that they celebrate death. Three was that I was working behind the scenes to build the foundation for what my next move in this world is and I want to give you the first glimpse of that here today.
So let’s start with what is the future of this SubStack. I plan to only promise two posts a month on here. Those will be versions of what I was doing before but revamped so I can manage them better.
Retro Re-Read is turning into Comic Book Reading Club. Every month I will choose a collected story for us to read together. I want to make sure that these comics are available to you in some way whether that be digitally and/or currently in print. I also don’t want them to necessarily be comics I have read in the past, so we will see some stuff that I have never read. I will make sure to let you know that in the post as I believe it will sway how the post is written. Also these could be collected runs of a comic, one-shot stories, indie, mainstream, we might even do some Manga along the way. So look forward to that on the 15th of every month, the first one will be Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s Old Man Logan.
Crowdfunding Spotlight will keep it’s name but have a very new structure to it. Instead of weekly I will post it on the final day of every month. Instead of spotlighting just one book per post I will spotlight many. This could be just one book or 10 every post will be different. I will also go less in depth on the campaign and just talk briefly about it and why I think you should check it out. This gives me more room to show off more great work and help more campaigns get the spotlight they deserve!
Outside of those I will use this forum to post about things in comics I want to go more in-depth with. These post won’t be scheduled but instead really depend on my passion about a subject or event in our space.
That will be what Chris’s Comics Corner will look like in 2026, hopefully beyond! But that isn’t the only thing I have been working on. I can’t share everything because well some aren’t finalized and some I want to be a surprise. But I can share with you that I am starting a new media publisher I am calling Tactical Squirrel Media. I want this to become the new Fortress Comics for me and me alone. TSM will include a new YouTube channel coming later in the year, a new podcast that I will announce when it is ready, and hopefully more in the future. My heart has always been in the podcasting space so I want to stretch further in that field and see where it can go. When the specifics on these new projects are ready I will let you know here first, but make sure to follow me on social media @ChrisTheRundt or check out the linktree below!
