When they first announce the NacellVerse I was excited mostly because I remember the Biker Mice From Mars from my childhood. Honestly the other properties involved I had either never heard of or only knew vaguely. None the less the idea of bring back some 90s cartoons in a shared universe was very intriguing. This issue serves as a set up for what is to come in the following months for series like RoboForce, Biker Mice From Mars, Sectaurs, and Power Lords. It does so by giving us the origin of the Great Garloo, as his planet is destroyed and he meets a new friend that takes him to different planets in search of a new home. I won’t spoil any of the details of the story but will say with each new planet we are introduced to the characters of the different comic series to come.
I thought the overall story of this issue was fairly basic. It didn’t do anything that stood out in the crowd of the great comics we get every week, but it does succeed in it’s ultimate goal. That goal being getting the reader interested in these characters as we meet them. Each set of characters from the four new series is given thier own moment to display who they are, and what their stories could be about. Since that is really the point of this issue zero I would say it is successful in what it sets out to do.

The art throughout the comic, much like the story, isn’t the best you’ll see in a comic today but is very fitting for what it is. In this issue we see 4 different interior artist throughout and honestly they all blend together nicely. Most reader won’t even realize that there are so many different artist contributing to the comic. This is because the style of the book resembles that of a Saturday morning cartoon, probably because that is what the properties originally where. If there is a stand out artist on the title it is Diogenese Neves who does the RoboForce part of the story. This is because the designs for those characters are much more involved and he manages the action sequences very well.

My overall feeling on the title is a bit complicated. While it did do a very good job of getting me into this new world, and excited about future titles inside the NacelleVerse, it really wasn’t a great single issue. For people out there I would say that if the NacelleVerse as a whole seems interesting to you then check this issue out, but if you are someone who has little or no interest I really don’t see this issue persuading you to jump in. Let me know below if you are excited for this new comics universe, and if you plan to pick up this issue #0.
