Silicon Bandits #1 came out of the gate with a bang. I still feel like it was the best first issue of a new series I’ve read in a very long time. So coming into issue #2 I had much higher expectations and hopes for it, obviously not all stories live up to their first impression. With Silicon Bandits I can say that it lives up to every expectation I had.

The first issue sets up the world, and sets up the idea of a heist inside this futuristic world. In issue two we dive deeper into that heist along with all the tropes you would expect from that genre, but what I really like was the twist on the classic planning scene. Obviously we are going to stay spoiler free here so all I’ll say is the addition of super intelligent AI Androids adds a really fun twist to this. There is also the story line of Kenji’s old war buddy, Johnny, showing up and demanding $400,000 because of his debt to a crime lord. This brings Johnny into the heist and adds that element of chaos that every heist story needs. The way the events of this issue unfold makes for a fun ride with a great cliffhanger ending.
The art team here continues their amazing work from issue #1. The scenes they build feel so lived in, and the city feels so well planned out in every way. My favorite scene happens through the eyes of the androids in which the colorist makes everything green, as if you are looking through tactical goggles. From stem to stern this is one of my favorite art jobs on a comic so far this year.

Magma Comix has come out the gate with two really amazing series in Principles of Necromancy and Silicon Bandits. They have proven so far that they have a great eye for comics. As for Silicon Bandits on it’s own, I truly believe, barring some disastrous final issues, that it will end up one of my favorite comics of 2024. Fans of heist movies, and great cyber-punk neo-futuristic stories will absolutely love this comics. And for everyone else I truly believe this series has been good enough to be a must try.
Silicon Bandits #2 will be available at your local comic shop, and digitally June 12th 2024. All cover art, preview pages, and the review copy of this comic were provided by Magma Comix.
