You all know by now how much I am enjoying Dynamite Entertainment’s Space Ghost series. With issue three the creative team continues to make me fall more and more in love with it. We start off this issue with a really great action sequence that sucks the reader into the book. At the climax of this battle Pepose and crew introduce a new villain that puts Space Ghost and his sidekicks in a morally grey area. And we end with a great sequence that shows why Jan and Jace are deserving of battling alongside Space Ghost. All around the story for this issue does exactly what I wanted which was to continue the great action, and really put us into the meat of this story.
As with previous issues I can’t say enough good things about the art in Space Ghost #3. Jonathan and Andrew do an amazing job of filling out this sci-fi world, while also managing to introduce some great alien races. They knock it out of the park with the fight scenes showing off not only the characters fighting prowess but also a slew of gadgets and powers. When Space Ghost uses his gauntlet to create an energy ground pound at the top of the comic you can feel the shock waves coming off the scene as the Lizard Slavers are blown away. The scenes inside of the redacted building are so well thought out and displayed that find yourself examining every inch of the panel. There is also a sequence at the end of this issue that involves a, let say poison ivy-esc situation, where the attention to detail made everything feel more alive. These two are a powerhouse art team that take this comic from a really good to great series.
There is so much to love about the Space Ghost series three issues in. This issue really ramps up everything for the story in a way that makes waiting another month to read more tough. For those of you out there that enjoy science fiction action comics I can’t stress enough that this is a must read. For everyone else I reiterate that Space Ghost deserves at least a try.
Space Ghost #3 will be available at your local comic shop and digitally July 3rd 2024. All cover art, and the review copy of this title were provided by the writer David Pepose.
