This will be a first for my Crowdfunding Spotlight, and prove why I called it that and not Kickstarter Spotlight, as we will be discussing a Zoop campaign. If I’m being honest with you all I think that the Zoop platform still has a bit to go to be a top tier crowdfunding platform but really do respect what they do. I’ll leave my criticisms for another time because this is meant to celebrate and promote projects. This one in particular catches my eyes for a couple of reasons, the story and Cullen Bunn. Not to take away from the rest of the team but in my world Cullen’s name brings an authenticity to a project that is an exclusive club.
In this comic we meet an nurse who has the ability to diagnose her patiences with just a touch. One day as someone dies in her arms she accidently leaches super human abilities and becomes a target as she must solve this person’s murder. It includes two genres that are close to my heart in crime/noir, and super heroes.
The art team in this graphic novel is just superb. They come together to make a superhero story that feels grounded in the real world. Nothing over the top just real people in extraordinary circumstances. I think my favorite part of the preview pages(which you can see by clicking the campaign link below!) is how the artist and colorist work together in certain panels to use and remove backgrounds to really showcase an action or emotion. When we get solid color background you can feel them jump off the page and they hit so much harder.
One thing with Zoop is that we don’t have tiers or add-ons per say but they treat the page more like a digital storefront for the user to pick and choose what they would like to purchase. This is one of the features of Zoop that I think makes it better than it’s competitors. So with this you have plenty of options to choose from for Copycat. The team here chose to steer away from variant covers but instead gave us some awesome extras. You can get the book itself as a physical or digital editions. Also they got some artist to do commission requests for you to grab as well. Pretty simple but I personally like when crowdfunding campaigns are simple.
I think this book will be a hit for sure and recommend that you check it out. The team here has a vision that can definitely go places, and with the people involved there is no way you leave disappointed. Make sure to check it out with my link below!
