In this issue of Rom the Spaceknight we get a bit of a breather between events. We see Brandy and Steve in jail as they are questioned about the death of their friend a sheriff from the events of issue 7. Rom quickly come in and frees the pair taking them to a remote area where they can be free. Rom soon leaves and heads to Washington DC where he tracks down his Neutralizer weapon. As he enters DC airspace the Airforce picks up his signature and scrambles fighter jets to take down the unidentified flying object, Rom. After a quick skirmish in the air Rom takes a breath to make sure none of the pilots were killed. He is then sucked into a tractor beam from a Dire Wraith craft. We then go back to the sheriffs jail cell where we learn that Steve has left Brandy behind to find a lawyer to take on their case. But Steve instead goes back to the sheriffs office were we learn there are now two Steve’s and one is in fact a Dire Wraith!
This issue’s basic mission is to reset the pieces on the board. While the story didn’t move along a ton in this it did set up new conflicts, and place characters in new places so that the story can move forward. These are issues in a comic series that are necessary at times, especially in long running series. With that said they creators still do a good job of making the events interesting enough to keep the reading moving through the issue, and end the issue with a fun action sequence that has Rom fighting Jet Fighters in the air.
